The application method for wax can vary based on the vehicle at hand and the detailer's preference. Typically it is applied with a buffer but can also be applied by hand as well. If you have a preference, you can always notate that for the detailer in the notes when booking the appointment.

The way that the wax is applied does not change the outcome of the detail. If you are looking for a wax "applied by a buffer", you may infact be asking the wrong question and might be needing a "compound" and not a "wax" to remove scratches, swirls and oxidation. Waxing, no matter if applied with a buffer or by hand, will not remove imperfections, scratches, oxidation etc from the paint, and requires "compounding" to do so.
