It's used for removing rust and dirt from metal (chrome exhaust pipes) and also great to use with glass cleaner for removing film and grime off glass. The 3 grades are available in "brillo" size pads - 16 pads in a pack.
Steel wool comes in grades of:
00 ("double-ott") medium
000 ("triple-ott") fine
0000 ("four-ott") super-fine
